Discover what it takes to lead in cybersecurity from the former FBI Cybersecurity Director, where threats to national security are constantly under surveillance. Take an investigative approach on a visit to a local cybersecurity company to uncover possible career opportunities. At the FBI Headquarters, go on a self-guided tour with interactive exhibits and artifacts that demonstrate the FBI’s role in national security. Learn cryptologic techniques in a workshop at the National Cryptologic Museum, getting an inside look into the 18th to 20th centuries of cryptology. Meet with a faculty member at a Washington DC university to find out about cyber defense or cyber engineering degree programs.
Engage students in a hands-on learning experience of U.S. history foundations and landmarks. On a tour of the memorials, students are invited to reflect on the sacrifices of brave soldiers who have defended American ideals and freedoms. At the U.S. Capitol Building, see the artistic representations of history in the Crypt, Rotunda and the National Statuary Hall. Go on a journey through the origins of American independence at the National Archives, viewing the Bill of Rights, U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence. Visit the U.S. Marine Corps Memorial, also known as the Iwo Jima Memorial, to see the statue of six Marines raising the American flag.
Depart from San Antonio and fly to Washington DC. Arrive at our nation's capital and start off with sightseeing along Embassy Row and stop for a photo op in front of the White House. Check in to the hotel and enjoy dinner in the evening.
Start the day with a lecture led by a former FBI Cybersecurity Director, where students have an opportunity to participate in a Q&A session. Visit the Capitol, taking in grand architecture in the Crypt, Rotunda and National Statuary Hall. Tour Capitol Hill, stopping in at the Visitor Center by appointment, see the Library of Congress and climb the steps of the Supreme Court. View the National Archives to see the documents that U.S. independence and rights are built upon, including the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and Bill of Rights. In the afternoon, meet with a state or local representative as arranged by the school.* In the evening, tour the Memorials and put history lessons into context.

Transfer to Arlington to get a firsthand look into the efforts being made to protect against hackers and cybersecurity threats on a visit to a local cybersecurity company. Go on a tour of the Pentagon*, where students gain insight into the nation’s headquarters of the Department of Defense and learn about significant moments in U.S. military history. Afterwards, take time to reflect on the nation’s past with a visit to the U.S. Marine Corps Memorial.

Visit the FBI Headquarters and go on the FBI Experience, a self-guided tour that features interactive multimedia exhibits and notable artifacts. Students see how the organization operates and gain a better understanding of the FBI’s unique role in national security and law enforcement. After, journey to the National Cryptologic Museum for the Secrets: Making and Breaking workshop. In this program, students are immersed in the history of cryptology and learn about cryptologic techniques with examples from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. At a university in the Washington DC area, meet with faculty to learn about the school’s academic programs in cybersecurity, focusing on cyber defense or cyber engineering.
Spend the morning at the International Spy Museum, exploring the many interactive exhibits on the hidden world of intelligence and espionage. In the Cyber: The New Battlefield exhibit, discover how technology is used by governments, groups and individuals to gather information and disrupt vital economic systems. Learn from computer experts and analysts about the complicated tactics used in cyber attacks and how they can be prevented. Depart from Washington DC and travel home.
