5 days
Travel to New York City and Boston, two major metropolises of the East Coast, to experience interactive STEAM learning at some of the country’s leading science centers and museums. Walk on the ocean floor without getting wet and voyage into space while staying in earth’s atmosphere. Program robots, dissect a squid and discover groundbreaking virtual reality technology! This educational tour turns today’s students into the scientists and engineers of tomorrow.
Our East Coast STEAM program invites students to discover the development of engineering and technology along with their modern-day uses across multiple industries. Each day is filled with interactive activities and hands-on workshops taught by field experts. From the bottom of the ocean to the depths of space, students experience various pioneering technologies that are used by scientists across the world.
Gain a new understanding of oceanography and marine biology. Interact with sea animals during a virtual underwater adventure through the Pacific Ocean at the National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey. While visiting the New England Aquarium, dissect a real squid to practice biology skills and learn to appreciate these legendary creatures.
Continue the experiential learning journey, taking in mind-blowing examples of technology and engineering. Venture onto a historic aircraft carrier to explore the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, which showcases the prototype orbiter that paved the way for NASA’s space shuttle program. Take part in a STEM program that involves students building and testing their own robotic arms! The Virtual Reality and Your Brain workshop at the Liberty Science Center allows students to use cutting-edge technology to learn about the brain’s perception of reality. Get insight into the engineering and robotic fields with interactive workshops at the MIT Museum, located on the prestigious MIT campus, and the Waterworks Museum.
Visit multiple National Historic Landmarks while exploring two of America’s oldest cities. See some of the most iconic skyscrapers and buildings during a walking tour of Midtown Manhattan. Take in one-of-a-kind views in Central Park, Times Square, the Statue of Liberty and from the top of the Empire State Building. In Boston, enjoy a piece of the city’s history by exploring Quincy Market, an almost 200-year-old building filled with eateries and shops. Perhaps try the famous clam chowder and Boston cream pie!
Upon arrival, explore the Big Apple with sightseeing and a walking tour of Manhattan’s central borough. Spend the evening overlooking the cityscape on top of the world-famous Empire State Building.
Engage in an interactive underwater journey that uses innovative technology to take students on a voyage through the seas. Afterwards, spend the afternoon at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum seeing the exhibits and learning about the space shuttle program.
Visit the Liberty Science Center to partake in a virtual reality workshop using HTC Vive. Travel to Boston and have dinner at Quincy Market, an early 19th-century market complex that is a designated National Historic Landmark.
Visit the Waterworks Museum to tour the Great Engines Hall and participate in building a historic water pump system. Continue the dive into STEAM education with exciting workshops at the MIT Museum, which is located on the prestigious MIT campus! Students get hands-on training of modern-day boat engineering and robot programming processes. Follow the guide’s lantern on a haunting journey through time, from Colonial Boston to present day, listening to tragic tales of famous ghosts and secrets hidden within Boston’s landmarks.
Spend the morning learning about marine life through a practical biology class on squid anatomy before departing Boston to travel home.
