Learn the craft of storytelling through narrative art, applying previous classes to illustrating a comic book. Between classes, students are encouraged to develop their comic book ideas in groups or independently. All set in the inspiring city of Los Angeles, there are so many distinct landmarks where creative professionals have made their mark. By staying in the UCLA dormitories, students are immersed in campus life in the city known as the entertainment capital of the world. Explore where stars and artists have risen among the dazzling sights of Los Angeles, including the Hollywood Sign, Walk of Fame, Sunset Boulevard and Rodeo Drive. To truly get a sense for why this area is nicknamed La La Land, stroll along the endless beaches and boulevards of Venice and Santa Monica. Walk the city with a real working artist, listening to stories about the art and graffiti in the diverse art communities of Los Angeles.
Travel from home to Los Angeles. On arrival, take a guided sightseeing tour by motorcoach to the Hollywood Sign, Walk of Fame, Sunset Boulevard and Rodeo Drive. End the day at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) for a campus orientation, introduction to comic book curriculum and check in to the residence hall.
Spend the day in class at UCLA, beginning with an introduction to graphic design and basic drawing. In the afternoon, cover layout and design for comic book panels. Briefly leave campus for the evening to stroll along Santa Monica Pier, Third Street Promenade and Venice Beach Boulevard.
In another full day of classes at UCLA, learn the fundamentals of comic book methods and materials. This afternoon, explore narrative art, discovering how to integrate storytelling and illustration in the comic panels.
Discover what working in the comic book industry is like on a visit to a local company. Experience Los Angeles during free time around Hollywood, Rodeo Drive and local comic book stores.
After checking out of the residence hall at UCLA, explore the unique art and graffiti of Downtown Los Angeles on a walking tour. Following this, travel homewards.

By staying in the UCLA residence halls, they are immersed in campus life in the city known as the entertainment capital of the world. Comprehensive comic book classes at the college cover graphic design, drawing, how to layout and design comic panels, methods, materials and narrative art. To gain insight into future career opportunities in the industry, there is a visit to a local comic book company.
